Elcho Castle lies very close to the South end of Perth. Although
not top of many Castle hunter's list it is a splendid castle to explore
set in a beautiful position on the banks of the Tay. Being semi
restored you can get a real feel for living in the past. Today's
castle dates back to about 1570. The land had been granted by James III
to the Wemyss family in 1468. The assumed date of the building of the
castle comes from a bill from a local merchant for ironwork thought to
be for the grilles on the windows. A Historic Scotland site with a
small attended shop where the attendant will give you a guided tour if
you ask nicely and it isn't too busy. Visit
here for more info.........
